Down Syndrome in Children

Down Syndrome, otherwise known as Trisomy 21, is a chromosomal disorder which is caused by having an extra copy of the 21st chromosome. A child affected by Down Syndrome may experience limited motor function, as well as problems with speech and communication, concentration and behaviour. However, no two people with Down Syndrome will demonstrate the exact same behaviour patterns, and the severity of each symptom may range from person to person. As a result, a child’s treatment needs to be specifically tailored to his condition and current stage of development.

Treatment for Down Syndrome

There are various therapies available that can help your child with Down Syndrome improve his motor functions, communication skills, behaviour and concentration. The sooner treatment begins, the better the prognosis. At Health in Motion, our ultimate objective is to teach patients the independence they need to be successful in their daily lives.

We are proud to have helped several children gain their independence in every aspect of their lives. Depending on your child's condition, we may use a variety of different therapies as a part of his treatment program.

LIFE Concept and Program

The LIFE Program was developed to help children with conditions such as Down syndrome learn to become independent in their daily function. Depending on your child’s condition, age and stage of development, the program is tailored to his specific needs, and covers all aspects of his life. This includes his cognitive, motor and social development.
