Staying Healthy During the Holidays

Neurological Disorders

A neurological disorder can impair a child’s physical and mental ability. Left untreated, it can also lead to long-term disability.

Health in Motion has years of experience treating children with neurological disorders such as:

  • Child brain injury
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Child (pediatric) stroke
  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Developmental delay

The Health in Motion approach

At Health In Motion we believe that every child can learn to function independently. But to do this, the child must develop in an environment that encourages self-sufficiency both physically and mentally. This means parents and caregivers must move away from doing everything for the child and instead allow the child to discover his or her own ability to function in everyday life with little or no assistance. The sooner your child begins treatment, the better the outcomes will be.

Depending on your child’s condition and needs, we will design a program with one or more types of therapy. For example, we may recommend speech language therapy to teach your child to talk and communicate, along with physiotherapy, massage therapy, functional education and conductive rehabilitation. While these therapies vary in methods they all apply the LIFE approach, and complement each other. All our therapists work together as a team to help your child be the best he can be.

To achieve this goal we require your presence during the sessions, where we explain and train you to guide your child in learning how to perform daily functions independently. This is an educational process for you and for your child. While your child is learning everyday functions to be incorporated in his daily routine, you are learning how not to do everything for your child but rather merely guide and assist him as he learns independent function.
