Neuro Developmental Therapy/Functional Rehabilitation

Read Katerina's Story

Neuro developmental therapy, also referred to in our clinic as functional rehabilitation, is effective in treating children, adults and seniors with conditions such as as cerebral palsy, pediatric stroke, Down syndrome, delayed development in children, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord and head injuries, and stroke.

While our goals and approach will vary according to each patient’s condition, our ultimate objective is the same for all patients: to teach them to become independent in their daily lives. We help our functional rehabilitation patients achieve this objective by:

  • Teaching and guiding them through the sequence of small functions that make up a complete function.
  • Changing passive behaviour to a do-it-yourself mindset. We do not coddle our patients, whether they’re adults or children. Instead, we instil a way of thinking that recognizes their ability to do things for themselves.
  • Parents and family members play an active and crucial role in teaching their loved one to become independent in every aspect of daily life.
  • Motor development is closely interrelated with social development.
  • The patient’s independence is achieved through explanation, guidance and repetition of function, games, and movements.
